Adirondack Park Fall Foliage 2009

Trip log 22,785mi. - Today we went in search of fall foliage to photograph in the Stillwater Reservoir area of The Adirondack Park, located in Upstate New York. After having the van serviced in Watertown we headed up into the State Forest Preserve for a look at the colorful leaves. It rained most of the day, but that didn't deter us. This year autumn in Upstate New York appears to be a wet one, as unsettled weather is expected for the next several days, so if you want to catch the fall colors you may have to get out despite the rainy weather this fall.

Outside Watertown at the lower elevations the leaves were just starting to change colors.

Once we took the scenic drive up to higher elevations where it's cooler in Adirondack Park the fall foliage was much farther along.

Some spots like around Stillwater Reservoir at 1700' above sea level, were very close to their peak of fall colors only a week or so out.

Vermont Autumn Foliage 2009

I'm happy to report that the fall colors are really starting to come out in Vermont, however it's still rather early and we are not even close to the peak yet, especially at the lower elevations. We are staying at a friends house in Chester, VT and today we went out sightseeing in search of autumn foliage. We selected a very scenic route to drive today, it is a nice gravel road that cuts through the White Rock National Recreation Area in the Green Mountains, Since we are coming from Chester we are driving the road from Weston East through the White Rock National Recreation Area to the town of Mount Tabor. I have uploaded Photos and video clips to give you an idea of how far along the fall colors 2009 are.

It's that transitional time here in the Sierras, rain here in town and snow in the higher elevations. It was a cold wet fall day when Jack, Dwight, Joe and I decided to go for a drive up Carson Pass to see the first real fresh snow of the season. We had a great time playing in the new fallen snow. We can hardly wait for ski season. It was nice to see everything covered with the blanket of white. Hope you enjoy the photos from the little trip.
