New Tires for The Van

Well, the tires were on their last leg. It was getting so bad we were wearing past the steel belts on the tires. There were bubbles starting to show up where the tire was so thin its not even holding its shape.

The tread is almost non existent. It covers maybe half of the tires and the rest was smooth.

The most difficult thing about replacing these tires, is that we have 16.5 rims so it's a very unusual tire size. We called probably 15 different places before we found them. The place that had them, was also about $50 less than everybody that wanted us to order them and wait a couple days.

There are already working on it and we should be back on the road in less than an hour.

Trip Log 1865 - On the Way to Summer Camp

We are 1865 miles into our summer journey. Driving through Iowa right now, and it is raining again. We have been through a few nasty thunderstorms already this trip. I hope it is nice this weened for the festival in Illinois.

We stopped in Nebraska at a rest stop and got a good 6-7 hours of sleep before back on the road this morning.

Flowski mentioned that we needed a new EZ-up and that I should look for one, it was perfect timing. There was a Sam's Club only 3 miles away. So we stopped and got a nice new 10x10 easy up with the awning and a few drinks and snack in bulk that we will need this summer.

We are only about 280 miles away from Peoria IL at this point. I think we are gonna get a hotel room tonight close to the festival grounds so that we can get cleaned up, rested and ready for Summer Camp! I bet we will see fellow campers if we get a room close to the venue.

Made it to Colorado

We stopped into our friends house in Alma for a short rest stop before we are headed back out on the road.

Only 1013 miles to go till Peoria IL. The festival is close to there.

Right now it is snowing so hard it's a white out. Flowski thinks we might need chains but it just started so we just need to get back on the road before it accumulates on the road.

24 hour driving challenge

Flowski is a driving machine! After staying up till 2 in the morning the night before we left, he worked all day packing and getting stuff ready to go he didn't even get a nap and we left at about 10:30 at night Sunday night.

Flowski drove straight through all night only stopping for gas and food. We made it to Utah by 7 AM and into Salt Lake City about 9:30. We stopped and ran a couple errands then quickly back on tour. Right now it about 5:00 PM Monday and he is still at it. Our gps is set to go to our tour family's house down in South Park Colorado and it says arrival around 10:00 PM. So if we make it in time Flowski will have pretty much driven non stop for 24 hours. That is some amazing driving abilities. He seems to be holding up really good.

It's all about good classic rock music to sing to and a sweet, salty, crunchy treat to help keep awake during the late night hours.

Trip Log 695 I-80 Wyoming

We left Tahoe last night at around 10:30 PM on our great summer adventure. Passed through Nevada without a hitch, and crossed the stateline to Utah right at about 7 AM.

We couldn't find the GPS cord so it died on us after a couple hours into the trip. Luckily it was a simple route, just stay on 80 so it wasn't difficult to nagivate without her. But we needed it to work so we stopped in Salt Lake City and tried to find a Best Buy. It was about 9:30 AM and the store wasn't open until 10, but there was a Mega Office Depot right next door so we didn't need to wait I found a replacement cord and got it working.

Next stop we had to find Dwight some shoes. I guess last night when we stopped to get his longboard off the roof cause it was raining, one of the black shoes must have rolled out the door and we didn't notice till a few hours later. So we tried to find a mall, the closest of which had no shoe store, then we tried to find a skate shop, the closest of which ended up being non-existent outdated information in the GPS. So we were off to the sporting goods store where we found a fashion shoes along the way and got Dwight some nice DC skate shoes.

While we were walking into the store it started to sprinkle, and by the time we got out, it was raining. The rain started to pickup on the way out of Salt Lake and as we drove up the pass it got pretty heavy and thick with some lightning strikes here and there. It changed over to snow big wet flakes once we got into Wyoming up into the mountain then right back to rain and lightning.

It just made us all want to go skiing, wishing we had an extra day to stop in A-Basin and ski before Summer Camp festival this weekend. They are open till June 6th last I heard.

We made it out of the rain and we are plugging away the miles. Right now we are making pretty decent time. The GPS says that if we drove straight through we would make it all the way to the festival by tomorrow at 10 AM, but Flowski has been driving since last night about 15 hours at this point and I have been awake for about 90% so we are definitely gonna need to take a nap before the next leg of the drive.

Start of Summer Tour 2011

We are all packed up and starting on our great summer adventure. 1st stop, Summer Camp Music Festival in Illinois.

We have 4 days until it starts on Thursday to drive from Lake Tahoe all the way to the festival near Peoria.

I am excited because my best friend Dwight decided to come with us on the adventure of a lifetime.

We stopped in Carson city on the way out to grab one last In and Out burger before leaving the west coast for the summer. It was an awesome burger.

It's about 430 miles till we hit Utah. If we drove straight through, we would hit the state line around 8 AM.
