Stateline, NV New Years Eve Crowd

Every year thousands of people gather in the streets in Stateline Nevada to bring in the New Year and this year was no exception. The streets were closed and all traffic was diverted around and nice weather welcomed thousands who came to party and celebrate the new year.

Some dude climbed the street light during
the Stateline New Years Eve celebration.

As you can see, there were so many revelers that the party spilled over into South Lake Tahoe, CA.

Moving Out of Hotel Room

We have been living in a crappy hotel room in South Lake Tahoe. They are making us move out tonight so they can rent it out to New Years Eve revelers. We are staying in the van, we can move back in 4-days. At least it's a 2 room place...

Green Gifts

WOW, I won a 2009 Giant Squid award for my Top 10 Best Green Gift Ideas
Squidoo Lens. I was aware of the nomination, however actually winning this award is completely unexpected. I mean they were all wonderful eco-friendly themed Squidoo's that were nominated along side me, so it really could have gone to anyone of the go green Lenses. Thanks to everyone who voted for my eco-friendly gift ideas Squidoo lens, I have worked long and hard refining it to the helpful resource it is today! The incredible variety of eco-friendly gifts I'm able to offer, is really a testament to how far we have come in recent years thanks to the awareness that's spreading around the world.

Best Gifts for Christmas

Christmas Gifts
Well this year Google decided it loves my Top 10 Best Christmas Gift Ideas page and it's sending me like 20,000+ hits per day, I'm serious, we are just getting slammed and folks are ordering gifts like crazy, it's so cool! I think they dig the unique gift ideas we are offering, after all we sort and sift through so much stuff to bring only the best gift ideas from top sources.

It all started back in 2005 I was looking for a place online that would let me create free web pages on what ever I wanted, that's when I found Squidoo and fell in love. They allow you to build a web page on nearly what ever you want, perfect. I started making free web pages, mostly I was interested in the Photographic niche, but diversified into the gift ideas niche too. Well the photography niche is proving to be nice and steady, but the gift ideas niche has totally exploded on me!

Welcome to California

Mono Basin Scenic Area

With a maximum depth of 159' Mono Lake isn't the deepest lake around, but did you know Mono Lake is one of the oldest lakes on the continent of North America? They say it's probably 3/4 of a million years old, and quite possibly as ancient as 1-3 million years old. Mono Lake is a salty lake too, in fact Mono Lake is almost three times as salty as the ocean and with a pH around 10.0, it is extremely alkaline. Mono Lake is home only to trillions of brine shrimp, alkali flies and algae. Surrounding Mono Lake however the volcanic Mono Basin is one of California's most diverse biological areas featuring hundreds of animals and thousands of plant species.

Mono Lake was nearly devastated by several water diversion projects which drastically cut down it's water supply causing the lakes water level to drop some 40 feet. Then in 1978 David Gaines formed a commitee to save Mono Lake and accomplished much in the effort to protect Mono Lake.

Crab Cooker Hot Spring, CA

On our way back up to Lake Tahoe from the Phish festival in Southern California we stopped for a relaxing soak in Crab Cooker Hot Spring in the Mammoth Lakes area. This is a very active geothermal area and there are lots of springs in the area.

Jack is enjoying the breathtaking view of the Sierra Mountains while relaxing in Crab Cooker hot springs. More of a hot tub Crab Cooker is fed by hot water piped in from the actual spring nearby.

You can literally park right next to the Hot Spring Tub!

The view from the springs, absolutely beautiful.

The PVC pipe that the steaming hot water comes out of has a valve to stop and start the water. The water is so hot that you just can't keep the spigot turned on or you'd boil. The trick is to keep it off unless needed to warm up the hot tub.

The source of the hot water was a spring not far away.

We parked right by the hot spring.

If you visit Crab Cooker do not bring glass. Glass and hot springs do not mix. Plus, the tub features several convenient can holders.

Halloween Phish 8 Festival

Happy Halloween everybody!!! It's day two of the 3-day Phish 8 festival in Indio, California and it's gonna be a party. Everyone is speculating about which album Phish is going to cover for Halloween tonight. My friends Jake and Heather have been telling me "the horns are hired" and that means the Rolling Stones, guess we will see.

Phish fans dressed up as Ghost Busters.

This moving sculpture was among the interesting pieces of art in the festival grounds.
