Way Down Upon the Suwannee River

On our way up to Montgomery, AL for the next stop on Widespread Panic tour we stopped for a night at the Spirit of the Suwannee Campground in Live Oak, FL. String Cheese Incident will host their  festival here this Halloween.
This place is enchanting! I've got to get here for a music fest again someday.

Sweet Home Alabama with Phish

We had an extra day, because we skipped Orange beach. It was way past Pelham so we stopped in my parents house in Auburn, AL. It was really nice to sleep in my old room and relax for a day instead of the beach, which turned out to be no vending, so good choice. Got an awesome dinner and really good breakfast before Pelham.

We ended up taking a little too long to get the front spot on shakedown. We were fashionably late, most of the row was full. It was one long single sided row, we squeezed in with another vendor that needed shelter because it was raining. We ended up in a puddle, so we moved out and got mostly out of the mud, Did well, and grabbed tickets right before the show for $20 each.

Ended up being decent seats, but we didnt have 3 together and it was super crowded, so we went to the back and ran into Jeff on the stairs in the top corner. Plenty more space to dance.

Portsmouth VA Phish Shows

Portsmouth was fun, we had a day off after Merriweather, so we played some disc golf! We went to the Bayville Farms Park which has a pretty nice course. Got a pic of the sign for a map. The course has pro and am tees for each hole and baskets for each tee.

I did pretty well on the front nine, then couldnt hold it together. Ended up with a 7 over, which is not too bad. Dwight was under most of the game and finished at 2 over playing all pro holes.

We got a hotel room near the venue and had a great Uno's pizza for dinner. Got to the venue at around 7 AM and we were the 3rd vendors on lot, barely beat Steely Dan to lot, he got there less than 5 minutes after us.

It was $50 for a business license/ vending pass right at the city hall across the street from the venue. It was nice to be official vendors and not have to worry about hassles. We were able to sleep behind our booth between the two show nights, only able to get a short nap though.

The shows were fun, we watched from right outside the venue the first night, and got in the 2nd night. After a fun time I was headed for the gate before encore to setup the booth. I was about 10 feet from the exit when I heard the first few notes of Lizards! I turned around and ran back in. Only lizards of the summer, really good time.

Merriweather Phish Finally

We went up to Merriweather Post Gazette Pavilion to see Phish play this last weekend. Dwight, Flowski and I made it into the show on both nights!

The shows were amazing. The first night i was planning on watching the webcast from the lot and continue to rage, but they had the cell phone blockers, so it took forever for the page to load, played 5 seconds and stopped. So we made a last minute move and snagged 3 tickets for less than face right before the show. Flow and Dwight went ahead in to enjoy the start of the show and Rob helped me break down to get in there.

This was the first time in a very long time that we were able to setup and vend at Merriweather! The fans were very excited that there was a shakedown at MPP. Before we could even finish setting up, we had 8 people shopping, almost a line to pick out cool hemp necklaces.

We were able to get the same spot both days, no blowout on lot, but everyone dragged their coolers to the bridge and did well.

The undercovers were still tackling people out of nowhere. Big mobile command center with a 100 foot tall camera watching everything and way too much excessive force. They were a bunch of Goons that didn't look like hippies. Way too many steroids.

But we had a great time because I have hand mined, non edible crystals, hemp necklaces and rings and things. Nothing they cared about.

NC Rockhounding

We had a few days before Phish in Charlotte, so we got a hotel room, relaxed, had a nice dinner after getting a good ways towards North Carolina.

We got to stop and visit our buddy gypsy Joe, and go rockhounding and sightseeing for a couple days.

We managed to find some beautiful Kyanites, and Aquamarines and a whole bunch of pretty pieces of mica. Had fun until we got caught in the rain while up on the hill.

Probably won't sell much mica here, because it is everywhere around NC,  But once you get out of the area, people really like it.

Now we are on the way to Charlotte for Phish tonight! Starting the next series of shows after a short break, then practically non-stop until Phish finishes this group of shows on the 3rd of August.

Bears Picnic

We were official paid vendors at Bears Picnic this last weekend. It was 468 miles from Clarkston, MI to Liberty, PA and we drove it pretty much all in one day. Along the way my friend Dwight from Tahoe called. He was burned out on SLT and ready to go on tour, so we got him a bus ticket from Reno to Harrisburg, PA a couple hours before getting to Bears Picnic. It was a 2 day 11 hour trip, so he would get there in time for the last day.  Got to the festival Thrusday around 7 PM. It was nice to be able to walk up and be official vendors at a festival. We got a prime spot right in front of the main stage and with a great view of the side stage. So it was perfect to see all the performances all weekend anddance along while being able to vend.

We got a 20x20 booth area and were able to fit the car and tent right in with our setup. By the time we got the EZ-up's, tables, and tablecloths setup we decided to start nice and early Friday and setup the store. So we got good sleep Thursday night and woke up feeling refreshed and ready to go, setup the full booth and got to meet some really nice people. Our buddy rob setup with us, and we got to see lots of friends and get to know some new ones.

We didn't kill it, because of a low attendance, but we did well enough, despite the turnout. We stayed open until about 2 or 3 AM every day, then re-opened by 10 or so. It was nice being able to keep a slightly normal sleep schedule. Usually at bigger festivals, I get very little to no sleep, because there are always lots of people out and about and shopping into the wee hours of the morning, and I like to stay open as much as I can when there are cool trades to be made and people to meet.

Flowski went out to get Dwight on Sunday morning, they made it back just a little after the music started on Sunday.  We got to see a bunch of great music together and hang-out and relax after a long journey and a long weekend.

Now, we are on our way back to Phish tour! Next stop is Charlotte NC, we are going to mine for a few days before the show on the 25th at the PNC Pavillion. Hopefully we can find some more cool North Carolina crystals to share some fresh energy from mother nature with people.
